Can you recycle my gold jewelry?
Yes! We're excited to be offering this program to help reduce the demand for newly mined metal, as well as giving new life to old pieces.
How does the process work?
The first step is to send us your pieces to be evaluated. Please email email@example.com to receive your Assay Processing code and shipping instructions. On the day it arrives, we will process the gold and email you a quote for the value, which we ask your approval on within 24 hours. We take a 15% of the value, and the rest will be given as a Melissa Joy Manning gift card which can be used in-store or online.
How do you calculate the value?
We will check the current gold market price, and the weight and karat content of your pieces. The metal will be acid tested. The condition of the piece does not have any effect on the value of the gold content. Please keep in mind that this cost will normally be less than the price paid for the piece, this is natural since it does not factor in the labor and stones on the jewelry.
What are the terms of this program?
You must be aged 21 or older to participate, and you must complete the contract and submit all information necessary. The jewelry you wish to recycle must be 100% owned by yourself, without any agents brokering the exchange on your behalf.
Can I have jewelry made from my heirloom jewelry?
Since we do not melt down our own metal, we cannot expect that having the metal melted by our refiner would return your same metal. We are happy to credit you its value and make you a new piece, and we can reuse your stones, but at this time we cannot melt down your pieces ourselves.
What will happen to my jewelry once you receive it?
First, we will evaluate the piece, including acid testing the metal. This requires us to scrap the metal , so a small amount of scratching may occur. Then we will email you to confirm the value we can offer for it. Once you agree to our quote, the scrap will be send to our refiner and it will not be possible to recover it.
What if I change my mind?
If you prefer to have the piece sent back to you instead of proceeding with recycling, please let us know once you receive your quote. All shipping costs must be covered by the customer.
What can be recycled?
We will recycle any gold pieces, 14k gold or higher (usually this means it will be stamped, with 14k, 18k, 20k, 22k or 24k). If it is not stamped, but you know the piece to be solid gold, we can help determine the karat once we test it.
Can you recycle my stones?
We can repurpose your stones into a new piece, but we cannot credit you for stones of any type. If you wish to have them returned to you after your metal is credited, please let us know. The cost of shipping them must be covered by the customer. Any unclaimed stones will be donated.
Can you make jewelry with a diamond or stone I own?
We would love to work with heirloom stones you may want to repurpose. Please email firstname.lastname@example.org and show us a photo along with any ideas your may have for the new piece, and we'll put together a quote for the other materials and labor required.
How do I ship the pieces in?
Please contact us at email@example.com for assistance. We ask that you mark the package with a unique Assay Processing code that we will issue to you upon your request. The package should be insured for the value you paid for it, or as close as you can remember. Melissa Joy Manning Inc. is not responsible for any items lost in transit, which is why we recommend insurance.
