Our Favorite Earth Day Organizations
Here at MJM, it is our goal to not only create beautiful jewelry, but to find new ways to do so that reduce the environmental and social impact that has historically been part of the manufacturing process. So this Earth Day, we've decided to highlight two of our favorite organizations that share our ethos and love for our planet.
Clean Water Fund
Clean Water Fund's mission is to develop strong grassroots environmental leadership and to bring together diverse constituencies to work cooperatively for changes that improve their lives, focused on health, consumer, environmental and community problems.
Their programs build on and complement those of Clean Water Action, a one million member national organization which has helped develop, pass, strengthen and defend the nation's major water and toxics laws such as the Clean Water Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, Superfund and others, including their state-level counterparts. In places as close to our hearts as Flint, Michigan, it is more important than ever to acknowledge the social and economic issues that surround Water policy and contribute to a healthy future for every person.
On Earth Day (4/22/2018), we are supporting Clean Water Fund by donating 10% of our online and retail sales to the foundation, and hope that others, both individuals and organizations, will join us. You can find out more about the organization here!
Pure Earth
Toxic pollutants at contaminated sites affect the health of more than 200 million people worldwide. Women and children are especially at risk suffering neurologic and immune system damage and an early death. (The number of people affected is comparable to HIV/AIDS, TB and malaria. Yet pollution is one of the most underreported and underfunded problems in the world.) The majority of acutely toxic sites are caused by local business, many of them artisanal or small-scale. Abandoned sites are also quite common. Surprisingly, international companies are rarely implicated.
Pure Earth devises clean-up strategies, empowers local champions and secures support from national and international partnerships. Cleaning up one community at a time brings us closer to a Pure Earth.
In celebration of Earth Day, we've teamed up with Pure Earth to auction off a piece of jewelry made from 100% recycled metals. If you'd like to bid on the piece, or learn more about Pure Earth, please click here.
