M's Guide: Let's Shop
Sadly, since Cy, I do less of it then I used to. Probably for the best (I have college to save up for), but here are my tried and true faves:
Bird- LA & Multiple locations in Brooklyn NY
Not on this list because Bird has been one of my oldest and most trusted partners, but because, Jen Mankins, the owner, has serious vision. Her edit of designers like Dries Van Noten, Mara Hoffman, Maria Cornjeo, Rachel Comey and other designer brands is unparallelled. Also, Jen only hires people she thinks are smart & interesting. You won't get any SNL skit like retail service here. Instead you will be treated warmly and taken seriously. And, if you ask, they will help you find everything you didn't know you even needed. Aside from clothes you can find shoes (they have a sick show/collection of vintage sneakers up now), leather goods, Saipua soaps (a fave) and jewelry (ahem...)
Sprout- Brooklyn NY & San Francisco CA
A sweet and engaging collection of environmentally responsible kids clothing, gear and accessories, They have a website if you aren't local. This place was a bad habit until I moved out of Carroll Gardens (phew!)
Shen Beauty- Court St, Brooklyn NY
You know that craze of Holistic and Natural beauty retail that's kind of everywhere these days? Well, Jessica Richards, the owner of Shen Beauty, was one of the pioneers of this movement. For reals, look it up. Jessica is committed to finding and carrying the best beauty products out there. She discovered a lot of the brands we all now use and love. She's so good that Free People and the whole UO team hit her up to be their beauty director. So, if you like a face mask that literally smells good enough to eat- check out Shen. I know they ship ;)
Need Supply- Online
I'm really obsessed with Sneakers. They have great ones. And I don't have to stand in line to get them. I just signed up for their email list. The click though function on the limited releases keep us well heeled.
Christina Lehr- Online
You know those sweats you want to live in? Or the comfy sweater you can wear while cozying up to the fire? Or the tshirt you wear until it literally falls apart. You find those all here. And they are made in LA, which is awesome. Also, the designer, in full disclosure, is my BF and inspired my Hug earring. Regardless, her work is awesome- I loved it before I loved her.
