Trapiche Emeralds
Emeralds are known widely for their grass green color and have been prized by royals and aristocrats throughout history, but many are unaware of the Trapiche variety, which has a naturally occurring six spoke pattern that radiates from the center of the crystal.
The name Trapiche comes from the appearance of the stone, which was compared to a design of the wheel inside a circular mill, called trapiche by the Spanish.
The stones are so rare that very little is known about their formation. We believe variations in fluid pressures create the sunburst design over time, giving the crystal a symmetrical six armed structure. They often occur with a slightly hexagonal shape, and there is speculation that trapiche emeralds outlined with black because of crystal deposits from the black shale in which emeralds are found.
Trapiche emeralds are found only in Colombia, and their natural beauty lends itself to being used in an untreated, uncut form. We love that Mother nature creates so much raw beauty for us, so we've done our best to highlight the natural beauty of the emeralds without overcomplicating the design. The result is simply beautiful rings, perfect for an engagement or a personal talisman.
